ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTHaydale Graphene Industries plc (LON:HAYD) has secured GBP 350,000 (USD 500,000/EUR 448,000) in research grants for new products using graphene, among which is a project focused on detecting and limiting ice build-up on structures.
One of the grants is for the development of multi-functional graphene enhanced composite materials that can detect the build-up of ice on structures and then be thermally activated to prevent ice build-up. These can be used for wind turbines, aircraft structures, power line insulators and antennae masts.
This grant has been awarded under Innovate UK's "Advancing the Commercialisation of Graphene" competition in November 2015. Haydale is partnering in the project with Thales and Bath University. Work is starting in April 2016 and is estimated to take about 12 months.
In the Innovate UK competition, Haydale has also secured grants for the development of graphene reinforced polyolefin materials for lightweight extruded products; graphene enhanced epoxy resins with greater durability, wear resistance and thermal cycling performance; and graphene enhanced carbon-carbon composites materials for high performance brake systems. All projects start in April, subject to completion of standard conditions in relation to finalisation of the grant awards.
The company has also secured funding under the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme for the development of electrically conductive graphene enhanced adhesives for aircraft structures. This project started this month.
