US renewables developer Hecate Energy has hired local engineering company Bechtel to design, construct and commission a solar plant in Calhoun County, Michigan, with a direct current capacity of 360 MW.

The project, dubbed Sunfish Solar 2, is the first of Hecate’s multi-phased 1-GW solar development in the county. Spanning 1,300 acres, it will have 620,000 bifacial solar panels.

Construction works are scheduled to start later in 2024, Bechtel said in a press statement on Wednesday.

The overall Sunfish Solar project is set to become operational in 2026. Once commissioned, it is expected to generate enough power for about 183,500 Michigan homes annually.

Founded in 2012, Hecate Energy has a pipeline of over 48 GW, with over 125 projects across 10 power markets in North America.
