Hellenic Cables, part of Belgium’s Cenergy Holdings SA (EBR:CENER), on Friday said it has won a contract to supply inter array subsea cables and related accessories for the 1,400-MW East Anglia Three offshore wind project in Scottish waters.

The deal was placed by Seaway7, which was in June selected to transport and install the foundations and inner-array cables for ScottishPower Renewables’ project. The scheme’s owner is a subsidiary of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA’s (BME:IBE).

Under the contract, Hellenic Cables will take care of the engineering, manufacturing, testing and supply of some 275km of 66kV three-core inter array submarine cables and will also deliver the associated accessories. The cables will be produced at Hellenic Cables’ factory in Corinth, Greece, with manufacturing to begin next year.

East Anglia Three is part of the East Anglia Hub to be located off the coast of Norfolk. The mega-complex, which calls for an investment of some GBP 6.5 billion (USD 8bn/EUR 7.48bn), will also comprise the 800-MW East Anglia One North and the 900-MW East Anglia Two projects.

To be located 69 kilometres off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia Three is scheduled to begin generating electricity in 2026. Its future output will be enough to meet the demand of more than one million homes annually.
