Greece downsizes target for 3rd battery storage tender - report
Sep 18, 2024 10:26 CESTGerman energy major RWE said that it will work with Greece-based energy group Hellenic Petroleum Holdings on exploring opportunities to further Greece's goal of 2 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030.
Through their respective subsidiaries, RWE Renewables Gmbh and HELPE Renewables SA, the parties have set up an equally-held partnership to develop, construct and operate wind parks off the Greek coast, RWE said in a statement on Monday.
The partnership will draw on Hellenic Petroleum's extensive knowledge of energy markets in Greece and the Southeast Europe (SEE) region in addition to its strong relationships with key stakeholders.
At the same time, it will benefit from RWE's technical and commercial know-how garnered through the development and operation of 18 offshore wind farms in five countries.
The German company, which is present in Greece with its local subsidiary RWE Renewables Hellas, is looking to add offshore wind to its solar power capacity in the country.
"The country’s excellent wind resource in combination with its long coast line result in a vast potential for offshore wind developments, which makes us confident that the Greek offshore wind industry will gain real momentum," Sven Utermoehlen, CEO Wind Offshore of RWE Renewables, said.
Athens-based Hellenic Petroleum's green arm HELPE Renewables owns operational assets of nearly 300 MW, including the 204-MW Kozani bifacial photovoltaic (PV) plant, and is working on more than 2 GW of PV and wind projects.
