Construction of the Lubmin plant is expected to commence following the approval of the project under the German Federal Immission Control Act (BImschG) and the final investment decision.

In January, HH2E signed a grid connection contract with German gas network operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH for the project on the Baltic Sea coast which will enable the blending of green hydrogen within the natural gas network. In April, HH2E ordered 18 MW/104.4 MWh DC of battery technology from Japanese ceramics company NGK Insulators Ltd for the Lubmin plant.

The project is a key element of HH2E's strategy to create scalable hydrogen production facilities throughout Germany. Each location will begin with an initial capacity of 100 MW, with the potential to expand to 1 GW. The company's goal is to achieve a minimum of 4 GW of green hydrogen production capacity in Germany by 2030.
