On-road load handling equipment specialist Hiab on Tuesday announced an order to supply at least 100 light-range loader cranes to "a leading wind turbine manufacturer in China."

The contract is worth about EUR 1.5 million (USD 1.6m) and the cranes will be delivered throughout 2017 for use in offshore wind farms.

The loader cranes for nacelle service are used to lift service and maintenance parts up to the wind turbines, Hiab, which is part of Finland's Cargotec (HEL:CGCBV), explained. The company also said that Asia is a major growth area in the booming offshore wind industry.

Recent data showed that China now ranks third in terms of installed offshore wind capacity, with 592 MW of new additions in 2016 (https://renewablesnow.com/news/china-joins-top-three-as-offshore-wind-adds-22-gw-globally-557630/).

The contract, signed at the end of January, also includes training for operators and service personnel, Hiab said. The name of the customer was not disclosed.
