Huisman delivers wind turbine installation crane onboard jack-up rig

Feb 21, 2012 - Dutch company Huisman Equipment said on Monday it has delivered a wind turbine installation crane onboard the jack-up rig Neptune, owned by GeoSea NV, part of Belgian marine engineering firm DEME Group.

The 600-metric tonnes (mt) crane was subcontracted by IHC Offshore and Marine, part of IHC Merwede, which is building the rig.

The crane has a full electric variable frequency drive system, a low overall construction weight and a small minimum operating radius, Huisman said.

It can be used for any other heavy marine offshore structures. The unit was constructed, commissioned and tested at the Huisman facilities in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The installation and load testing took place at the yard of Serdijn Ship Repair in Rotterdam.

After delivery, which is expected in early 2012, the Neptune will start its first assignment on the Thornton bank off the Belgian coast, where it will install 48 wind turbines for the C-Power offshore wind farm.
