Spanish company Irizar e-mobility will be the first to use Norsk Hydro ASA’s (OSE:NHY) recycled aluminium produced with green hydrogen, the Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company said on Thursday.

Irizar e-mobility will use the aluminium profiles for bodywork in its electric vehicles, one of which is an electric bus that resembles a tram.

After Hydro produced the recycled aluminium with green hydrogen at its recycling site in Navarra, Spain in June, the material was subjected to extensive testing to ensure it meets the requirements for extrusion, fabrication and eventual use in Irizar e-mobility’s electric vehicles, the company explained. The successful tests led to Irizar e-mobility placing the first order for aluminium profiles from this material in early November.

The partnership reflects both companies’ efforts towards more sustainable products.

Holding its Capital Markets Day on Wednesday, Hydro said that towards 2030, it will be stepping its growth ambitions in extrusions, recycling and renewable power generation.
