Canadian battery energy storage systems (BESS) provider EVLO Energy Storage Inc, a subsidiary of Hydro-Quebec, on Wednesday said it will deploy more than 300 MWh in BESS projects in Virginia.

The plans include three EVLOFLEX systems, scheduled for commissioning in 2025 and 2026. The projects will support Virginia state’s objective of 100% clean energy power grid by 2050.

“As Virginia aims to modernise its clean energy portfolio, battery energy storage systems like the EVLOFLEX are key in ensuring utilities reach their clean energy standards reliably and safely,” said Sonia St-Arnaud, president and CEO at EVLO.

The first project will be of 5 MWh and will be part of a facility microgrid powered by solar and battery storage, which will be used to study how clean technology can make future power grids better.

The second project will be a 75-MWh standalone storage system that will improve local grid reliability. It will be brought online in 2025.

The third project will install 225 MWh at a solar project located at a transportation hub. Once it becomes operational in 2026, it will be the largest battery energy storage project in Virginia, the company said.

EVLO has also just announced its new 5-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) product.
