World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTHydro Rein and Atlas Renewable Energy on Wednesday announced the start of commercial operation of their jointly developed 438-MW Boa Sorte solar power complex in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
The renewables arm of Norwegian aluminium supplier Norsk Hydro ASA (OSE:NHY) said in a statement that this is the second large-scale solar project developed by it in Brazil after the 531-MW Mendubim solar farm in Rio Grande do Norte which commenced operations a few weeks back.
Boa Sorte, which consists of several projects, was delivered on time and on budget, Hydro Rein said. As previously announced, the plant will supply electricity to Brazil’s largest primary aluminum producer, Albras. More specifically, it will cover about 12% of Albras’ total energy consumption under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), from 2025 to 2044.
“Boa Sorte is a significant project for us because it marked our initial PPA to supply clean energy to Albras. This successful collaboration has been repeated in Vista Alegre, which is currently under construction,” commented Fabio Bortoluzo, Country Manager for Atlas Renewable Energy in Brazil.
