Hydrous ethanol prices climb in 17 Brazilian states, fall in nine

Mar 11, 2013 - Hydrous ethanol prices at Brazil's fuel stations rose in 16 states and in the Federal District of Brasilia last week, while dropping in nine and remaining stable in two states respectively, data released by Brazil's oil industry watchdog ANP showed.

The average price of ethanol in southeastern Sao Paulo state, which is the biggest producer and consumer of the fuel, grew by 1.35% in the period, to BRL 1.943 (USD 0.999/EUR 0.769) per litre. Nevertheless, this was the lowest average ethanol price verified in the country, ANP noted.

The most expensive ethanol, on the other hand, is sold in northern Acre state at BRL 2.636 per litre on average.

According to ANP, last week ethanol was more competitive than petrol (gasoline) only in Sao Paulo, central Goias and central-western Mato Grosso states.
