Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) has teamed up with ceramic tiles manufacturer Porcelanosa on finding a way to electrify and decarbonise the production of ceramics in line with the EU targets.

The Spanish utility group said the duo agreed to conduct research into energy solutions for Porcelanosa’s factories, such as those for maximum efficiency high-temperature heat pumps in driers, as well as the combined use of renewables and a green hydrogen supply to reach the temperatures required in atomisers and hybrid kilns.

The manufacturer’s decarbonisation plan includes the use of emissions-free electricity and the installation of a solar plant for on-site consumption, which will also be part of the joint analysis with Iberdrola.

The collaboration will yield projects that Iberdrola will support and that could be eligible for grants at European, national and regional levels, the utility said.
