Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTNov 4, 2011 - IBM (NYSE:IBM) yesterday announced the launch of a solar power system designed for high-voltage data centres and industrial application.
The company said the technology had been specifically developed to power high-voltage data centres, integrating AC- and DC-based servers, water-cooling systems and related electronics.
The array is installed on IBM's software development laboratory in Bangalore, India, and can supply 50 kW of electricity for an average of five hours a day, for up to 330 days in the year.
IBM says its solution, which it plans to offer to clients, adapts solar power technology for application in large-scale IT and electronics installations and can lower the energy use of data centres by a 10th.
Noting that in many emerging markets the reliability of and access to grids is a problem, the group said its technology would enable companies and government agencies to look at establishing data centres not needing grid electricity.
