IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, has provided an USD-8-million (EUR 7.1m) loan to a major industrial park in El Salvador for an expansion project and the installation of an 8-MW rooftop solar plant.

The financing has an 11-year tenor and will allow American Industrial Park SA de CV (AIP) to build more space, improve logistics and wastewater management and complete the installation of photovoltaic (PV) arrays for own use, IDB Invest said.

According to AIP’s website, the park has 14.5 MW of installed solar panels on the rooftop space and supplies electricity to its clients. At present, the arrays cover 38% of the facility’s total power consumption.

AIP says it wants to become the first industrial group in Central America to be powered by 100% renewables in 2025.
