IDB to lend USD 30m to Peru for sustainable energy

Nov 27, 2012 - The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a policy-based loan of USD 30 million (EUR 23.2m) to support Peru in developing a sustainable energy mix, the bank said yesterday.

The country will use the funds to implement a strategy for sustainable energy, design national and sector plans, assess its institutional and regulatory framework to stimulate hydro energy and non-conventional renewable energy, and improve energy efficiency, emissions control and environmental and social management.

These efforts are part of a programme for which IDB had already disbursed USD 200 million in the last three years. The programme will benefit the Peruvians through its contribution to the economy, ensuring optimal use of the natural gas and electricity resources and diversification, the bank said.
