The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a USD-5.5-million (EUR 4.9m) loan to support a plan by Inversiones Materiales SRL, or Invema, to install a roughly 1-MW solar array on top of a recycling plant in Honduras.

The Honduran company intends to purchase and install over 3,600 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at the roof of its facility in San Pedro Sula and the IDB loan will help it do so. Invema will also invest in equipment to produce Pet bottles using up to 100% recycled content.

The project is co-financed by the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in the Americas. IDB is lending the money to Invema from the USD-100-million Climate and Clean Energy Facility, which supports companies in the region investing in energy efficiency and self-supply renewable energy projects.
