Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe International Finance Corporation (IFC) has launched an online portal to support the development of renewable energy-powered mini-grids in Tanzania.
The portal is designed to help small, renewable power producers who want to sell electricity to the millions in the country that do not have access to the main grid, the development institution said on Thursday. It contains various information such as about financing and the permits required to develop and operate a mini-grid in Tanzania, as well as a tool mapping villages and providing data on their populations and current electrification status.
The portal (http://www.minigrids.go.tz/), is part of IFC's USD-5-million (EUR 4.5m) programme to help Tanzania implement affordable and reliable renewable energy solutions.
Tanzania's government has estimated that about 50% of the country's rural population could be cost effectively served by off-grid options and that mini-grids could benefit 9.1 million people, IFC said.
