Sunrun enjoys growing solar, storage installations in Q3
Nov 08, 2024 10:04 CESTJul 10, 2012 - Swedish furniture retailer Ikea today officially switched on a 977.6-kW photovoltaic (PV) system on its store in Canton in the US state of Michigan.
The system, which includes 4,160 panels on 122,200-sq-ft (11,353 sq m) area, will generate some 1.1 million kWh of electricity, enough to offset 769 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and supply 96 households a year, Ikea estimates.
US commercial solar projects developer SoCore Energy has developed, designed and installed the system. Ikea has also partnered with the Canton Township and Detroit Edison, a unit of DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE), on the project.
The PV system is Ikea's 20th finished solar power project in the US. With 19 more solar projects underway, the total capacity of the company's solar systems on its US stores will reach 38 MW. Ikea owns and operates all of the solar systems on its stores.
