The provincial government of Lower Austria has given the go-ahead to a project for a 73-MW onshore wind farm to be built by Vienna-based renewable energy producer ImWind Erneuerbare Energie GmbH in the east of the Alpine country.

The environmental impact assessment of the project, dubbed Loidesthal II, has been successfully finalised and preparations for construction works are set to start at the end of the second quarter of 2024. The site located in the municipality of Zistersdorf is expected to become operational by the end of next year, according to a statement.

The facility will be equipped with 11 turbines, 10 of which will be on the territory of the Loidesthal community and one in Grossinzersdorf. Once switched on, it will produce enough electricity to power 43,000 households annually.

In the statement, ImWind highlighted that this is the largest wind project for which the company has received approval to date. The firm already operates 14 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 46 MW in Loidesthal and Grossinzersdorf.
