Sep 05, 2024 9:51 CESTCanada’s Northland Power Inc (TSE:NPI) confirmed that 17 people have been hospitalised after an incident occurred at the onshore substation connected to the 1,022-MW Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident involved a leak of carbon dioxide from the fire suppression system, Northland Power said in a statement, highlighting that the details of the incident are still under investigation.
“The incident has been contained, and all work at the onshore substation is suspended until further notice while investigations are ongoing,” the Canadian firm noted further.
The CAD-9-billion (USD 6.61bn/EUR 5.95bn) Hai Long project will be located 45 km-70 km off the Changhua coast in the Taiwan Strait. It is owned by Northland Power, Gentari and Mitsui & Co.
The station, which is planned to be equipped with 73 turbines, targets completion in 2026/2027.
