Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTIndia will provide USD 20 million (EUR 17m) in concessional financing to Suriname for a solar project that will provide energy to a cluster of 49 villages in the country.
India's president Ram Nath Kovind made the announcement last week during the first visit of an Indian president to Suriname.
Kovind, who addressed the National Assembly of Suriname, thanked the nation for ratifying its entry into the International Solar Alliance and said this will allow the two countries to collaborate on solar energy projects.
In addition to the USD 20 million in concessional financing for the solar project announced as part of the visit, India also will provide a USD-27.5-million credit line to support a power transmission project in Pikin Saron area, according to an official statement.
