All funds in place for 1.5-GW Al Ajban solar project in Abu Dhabi
Sep 18, 2024 8:34 CESTIndian engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (BOM:500510) has been contracted to install a 1.8-GW solar photovoltaic (PV) site as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
The order, the value of which was not disclosed, was placed with the renewable energy arm of Larsen & Toubro’s power transmission and distribution business, the Indian firm said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday. Its scope of work will include the construction of the PV park, the interconnection of two substations and the installation of high-voltage underground cables and medium-voltage power distribution facilities.
The 1.8-GW complex will form the sixth phase of Dubai’s flagship solar project, the overall planned capacity of which is expected to reach 5,000 MW by 2030. The specific portion will cover over 20 sq km (7.7 sq mi) and will be installed in three phases.
Last Septemeber, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, better known as Masdar, signed an agreement for the construction and operation of the 1.8-GW sixth phase with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority PJSC (DEWA). The latter will own a 60% stake in the huge project and be the sole power off-taker.
