India's Photon Energy to implement 3.5-MW solar plant upgrade

Apr 9, 2014 - Indian company Photon Energy Systems Ltd will expand the capacity of an existing 6.5-MW solar power plant in Mahbubnagar, the state of Andhra Pradesh, to 10 MW, the Hindu Business Line reported yesterday.

More specifically, Photon Energy will build the 3.5-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project worth INR 250 million (USD 4.2m/EUR 3m) for the publisher of the Eenadu daily - Ushodaya Enterprises Pvt Ltd. Photon Energy was also the one to construct the original 6.5-MW Midgil solar facility, the cost of which amounted to INR 500 million.

The upgrade is anticipated to be done in three to four months. The entire plant will then span over 70 acres (28.33 hectares) of land.

Photon Energy’s chief executive officer, Gautham Nalamada, told the newspaper that the Midgil plant represents India’s largest solar power facility with trackers to supply 12 million units of electricity annually.

According to Nalamada, the company has 65 MW of solar capacity under development near the city of Hyderabad.
