The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission CNE said on Thursday it had granted the definitive concession for a 50-MW/60-MWp rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the country.

Corporacion Zona Franca Santiago (CZFS), a domestic company that operates a free-zone industrial park in Santiago province, secured the concession for 25 years to realise its Zonaxol solar project.

CZFS, through the Zonaxol project vehicle, will install solar arrays on rooftops of several companies doing business in the Santiago industrial park. According to CNE, electricity from the arrays will be sold at half the normal price of the distributors.

CNE added that it will reach the end of the year with 19 projects under concessions.
