Swiss green hydrogen firm Infener plans to develop a 20-MW hub in the German city of Gengenbach, which will produce up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

The facility will be located in the Kinzigpark I industrial area and will supply the Ortenau district in southwestern Germany with climate-neutral energy, Infener said on Monday.

The project is currently in the conceptual phase and its implementation hinges on the planning outcomes, the conclusion of purchase agreements, and the necessary investment decisions.

The initiative is backed by the mayor of Gengenbach, the municipal utilities, and the regional economic development agency. Infener has also received support from Climate Partners South Baden, a local organisation focused on promoting sustainable development and climate protection.

The project represents another milestone for Infener in the expansion of the green hydrogen market. Earlier in 2024, the firm initiated the construction of hydrogen hubs in the German cities of Villingen-Schwenningen and Neumuenster.

Established in 2023, Infener aims to build decentralised hubs across Europe.
