San Juan, Puerto Rico-based renewables operator Infinigen Renewables will add a 15-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) to its 32-MW solar project located in the Puerto Rican municipality of Yabucoa.

Infinigen said on Wednesday that it has partnered with US battery storage solutions provider and integrator FlexGen Systems Inc to bring the project online. FlexGen's HybridOS power management system platform and digital controls will be used, in compliance with the demanding grid specifications of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

"This project expands our current fleet in Puerto Rico to over 100 MW. Coupled with our development pipeline of over 1 GW of renewable assets, it represents another step towards the strategic objective of being the leading developer and operator of solar and storage capacity in Puerto Rico," said Leslie Hufstetler, CEO of Infinigen Renewables.

The YFN Yabucoa Solar Project has a power purchase and operating agreement (PPOA) with PREPA in place since 2022. According to Infinigen’s website, the solar farm is expected to reach commercial operation date in September 2025.

Infinigen is wholly-owned by an affiliate of investment firm ArcLight Capital Partners.
