NTPC’s green energy arm eyes USD 1.2bn from Indian IPO
Sep 19, 2024 11:52 CESTInfinity Power, jointly owned by Egypt’s Infinity and Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, will seek to develop 1 GW of renewable energy projects in Sierra Leone by 2033 in a move that will expand the West African nation’s power generation and supply infrastructure.
The company on Monday said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Sierra Leone outlining its intentions. Under the plan, the capacity will be deployed in phases. The target technologies will be solar photovoltaic (PV), floating solar, wind, hydropower and battery energy storage.
Infinity Power said it will work closely with the national Ministry of Energy to carry out feasibility studies, secure permits and seal power off-take contracts with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). Those steps will be undertaken for 200 MW of projects to install additional hydroelectric capacity, floating and ground-mounted PV arrays.
The government of Sierra Leone has pledged to provide all needed support to facilitate the successful implementation of the initiative, which is seen to support the country's sustainable energy and economic development and back its environmental goals.
Infinity Power, which claims to be the largest African renewable energy provider, last month committed to developing up to 4 GW of renewable energy projects in Cameroon by 2035.
