Spanish electrical engineering company Ingeteam SA will be in charge of the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the substation connected to a 55-MW wind park in Panama for the local unit of US-based AES Corp (NYSE:AES).

The Penonome wind farm is located in Cocle province in Panama’s central area and has been operational since 2014. The European company noted that it has provided services for the plant in the past, when it was owned by Goldwind Americas.

The unit of Chinese wind turbine maker Goldwind Science & Technology Co Ltd (HKG:2208) sold the 22-turbine wind farm to AES Panama in 2020. Originally owned by Union Eolica Panamena (UEP), Penonome was Panama’s initial incursion into wind energy.

This contract marks the initial partnership between Ingeteam and AES Panama, opening the door to future collaborations. At present, AES Panama is the largest electricity generator in the Central American country, Ingeteam noted.
