Saint-Gobain to offtake solar, wind power from Boralex in France
Nov 11, 2024 11:05 CESTIngka Investments has brought online its first solar photovoltaic (PV) park in France, expecting the plant to generate roughly 23 GWh of green electricity annually.
The investment arm of Netherlands-based Ingka Group, the largest franchisee of Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, said on Thursday that the project was executed to support the group’s goal to consume 100% renewable electricity across its retail operations by 2025. The scheme will also contribute to the overall IKEA net-zero commitment.
The PV park is located in Langeron commune, in the Nievre department of central France, and is equipped with 34,500 modules. Its annual output is expected to be enough to meet the power demand of more than 6,000 homes.
The lant will be operated by Ingka Investments, in partnership with Exus Renewables.
“We believe we have an important role to play to encourage the production of more renewable energy, rather than just buying up renewable energy,” said Frederik de Jong, head of renewable energy at Ingka Investments. He explained that the company’s investments in the renewable energy field are guided by its IKEA Retail countries, where the company aims to secure long-term access to renewable power.
Ingka Investments already has a portfolio of seven wind farms in France.
