Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTOffshore renewables specialist Innosea will support the development of a 240-MWp floating solar PV (FPV) project at a hydroelectric plant reservoir in Laos, it was announced today.
Innosea, which is part of global energy and marine consultancy AqualisBraemar LOC ASA (OSE: AQUA), will serve as technical advisor on the owner’s engineer team and provide support for wave and anchoring studies during the course of the project development.
The solar plant will float on the reservoir of the Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant. Its panels are expected to cover an area of 3.2 square kilometres (1.24 sq miles) of water surface with no land intrusion, according to the announcement made by AqualisBraemar.
The FPV is expected to reduce water evaporation, which in turn will increase the annual hydropower production.
“Energy clustering of solar with hydropower is believed to potentially boost electrical output of existing plants by 10 percent, without occupying land space,” said Benoit Briere, senior project manager at Innosea. “It’s also a privilege to support Laos in the development of what is projected to be one of the world’s largest FPV plants.”
