The Colombian arm of global investor Innova Capital Partners plans to develop and install the first floating solar array in the Caribbean islands, with Ciel & Terre acting as the technology partner for the project.

More specifically, Innova Solar Colombia intends to install a 74-kWp floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the Fresh Water Bay dam in the municipality of Providencia, Colombia. The output of the plant is likely to fully meet the electricity needs of the municipal aqueduct, according to the announcement.

Floating solar specialist Ciel & Terre (C&T) will supply its HYDRELIO technology for the project, which is its second in Colombia. The specific solution is typically installed on inland and artificial water bodies.

“This project is special, because it is located in an area that has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO," stated Eva Pauly-Bowles, International Director of Sales at C&T.

The scheme is backed by the Swedish government and is expected to be realised by the end of the year.
