Intilion wins 60-MWh energy storage order from Deutsche Telekom

Intilion wins 60-MWh energy storage order from Deutsche Telekom Image by INTILION GmbH.

German energy storage company Intilion AG said it has been hired by a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG (ETR:DTE) to realise a 60-MWh project under its largest order to date.

The project encompasses two 26-MWh energy storage systems, one each in the cities of Hanover and Bamberg, and a third 6-MWh facility in Muenster. The sites are expected to be switched on by the end of 2023, Intilion said in a statement on Wednesday.

The front-of-the-meter project will use Intilion’s scalecube large-scale storage units for frequency balancing and balancing services.

“We have not only received our largest order for large-scale storage systems so far from a well-known customer, but also successfully entered the important market of energy storage systems for the telecommunications industry and data centres,” said Intilion’s CEO Andre Haubrock.

The order was placed through the German telecoms group’s subsidiary ASM Power and Air Condition Solution Management GmbH (PASM). Financial details were not provided.

Deutsche Telekom, earlier this year, launched a 1-MW/6-MWh battery energy storage system at its head office in Munich as part of a 300-MWh partnership with Norwegian technology provider Pixii.
