Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTIran aims to add at least 1,000 MW of renewables capacity per year through 2022, the Financial Tribune said today, citing a top government official.
The country will work towards achieving its goal with the help of the private sector, deputy energy minister Houshang Falahatian said, as cited by the local daily. He added that the Islamic republic, which has ample oil and gas resources, has attracted strong interest for renewables from international investors, and European groups in particular.
According to the minister, a 30-MW solar park in North Khorasan Province is expected to begin power generation in the near future. The project in Jajarm is a joint development of Swiss Ecofinance Company and Italian partners.
Currently Iran relies heavily on fossil fuels and has 360 MW of installed renewable power plants. The country’s total installed power capacity is 77,000 MW. In order to diversify its power mix, Iran aims to have 5 GW of renewable energy facilities by 2020, according to the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran.
