Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTIraq’s Ministry of Electricity today invited experienced solar energy companies to build 755 MW of photovoltaic (PV) power plants in five provinces.
The plan, described as a first round of solar investment in the country, includes two big projects of 225 MW and 300 MW in Babylon and Karbala, respectively, as well as several smaller solar farms of between 30 MW and 50 MW. The goal is to have these capacities installed by the end of 2020.
Details on the first round of solar investment and the way the developers will be selected were not disclosed.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Iraq had 37 MW of solar power generation capacity at the end of 2018. The country now seeks to expand the use of renewable power.
