Ireland’s PCRE secures 280 MWp of solar in RESS 4 auction
Sep 12, 2024 17:57 CESTA programme has been launched in Ireland that will provide eligible schools with 6 kW of roof-mounted solar panels, helping them to reduce their energy bills and emissions.
Up to 4,000 schools across the country are expected to get solar systems as a result of the Solar for Schools Programme, which will be rolled out in phases. The first phase opened on Thursday to over 1,600 schools from 11 designated areas.
Announcing the launch of the scheme last week, the government said the 6-kW installations, which will be grid connected, could deliver about EUR 1,200 (USD 1,312) to EUR 1,600 in bill savings per year for schools.
The programme is funded by the government’s Climate Action Fund but its budget is not announced to encourage more competitive offers. The authorities hope that having solar panels on schools will support their wider adoption. There will be a display screen in each school, allowing staff and students to track the power generation.
