Dublin-based independent power producer Power Capital Renewable Energy (PCRE) said Wednesday it has secured contracts for difference (CfDs) for two solar projects totalling 280 MWp in Ireland’s renewables auction this week.

The company has been awarded the highest solar volume in the RESS 4 auction, building on its previous successes in the earlier rounds of the scheme. Without naming the projects, PCRE said they will be developed in counties Tipperary and Wexford.

The company has recently completed the construction of four projects with a combined capacity of 230 MWp, all backed by corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) with large tech companies. PCRE further said it has now started construction on another 330 MWp of RESS 2 projects and expects to break ground on its RESS 3 and RESS 4 projects in 2025.

“It is positive to see the momentum building towards the Government’s 2030 targets of producing 80% of Ireland’s electricity from renewable sources. Power Capital Renewable Energy is delighted to be contributing to this, and the recent RESS 4 success allows us to continue to build upon our track record in the delivery of projects onto the Irish grid,” commented chief executive Justin Brown.

Following a strategic investment from Omnes Capital in 2020, PCRE has expanded its Irish pipeline to 5 GW.
