Irish firm Cameliasiade Ltd has commenced design and survey work on a 109-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Belarus, news agency BelTA said on Friday, quoting an official at the Cherikov District Executive Committee.

Cameliasiade plans to finish this job early next month, the committee’s first deputy chairman, Sergei Poluichik, told BelTA. According to him, the company estimates it will need to invest some BYR 600 billion (USD 27.8m/EUR 25m) in the project, having already spent about BYR 1.6 billion.

The current plan is to build the facility near the village of Blizhnyaya Rechitsa, in Cherikov District, Mogilev Oblast. The output of the plant will be sold to regional utility Mogilevenergo.

The first deputy head of the Cherikov District administration also said, as cited by the news agency, that a German firm had made a serious proposal for the implementation of an alternative energy project at a site that is yet to be chosen.
