Isle of Man calls offshore wind, tidal project developers

Feb 4, 2014 - The government of the Isle of Man on Monday invited expressions of interest from parties willing to develop offshore wind and tidal energy projects in its territorial waters.

The self-governing British Crown dependency estimates that it can generate about GBP 5 million (USD 8.1m/EUR 6m) each year from leasing part of the seabed to offshore wind farm developers, said minister for economic development John Shimmin.

Source Low Carbon LLP is to support the economic development department, the departments of infrastructure, environment, food and agriculture and the Treasury when it comes to policy and development issues related to the tendering of future offshore wind and tidal power projects.

The Isle of Man's plan could create about 60 jobs if only one wind farm project is undertaken, the government said, adding that it would proceed with consultations with all stakeholders potentially affected by the development of any wind farms in its waters.
