Isolux Corsan commissions 61.5 MWp solar plant in Honduras

Spanish engineering and construction group Isolux Corsan announced today it has completed its 61.48 MWp photovolatic (PV) power plant in Honduras.

The Aura II solar farm, located in the region of Choluteca, was built in just seven months with an investment of USD 100 million (EUR 91.5m).

The project has been supported by private investments from Mexico and Honduras, as well as finance from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Mexican bank Bancomext, and the German development agency DEG.

The solar farm covers an area of 145 hectares with 200,000 single-axis trackers and was built in cooperation with Mexican Gauss Energia.

With an annual output estimated at 109 million kWh, the power plant will cover the energy consumption of more than 80,000 Honduran families while saving about 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The electricity produced by Aura II will be fed to the grid of ENEE, Honduras state power company, under a 20-year power purchase contract.

Isolux Corsan has a total of 629 MW of solar power, either installed opr under construction.

According to a recent report by GTM Research, a record 981 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Latin America entered the construction phase in the second quarter of 2015.
