Israeli companies are interested in investing in renewable energy projects in Serbia, the infrastructure ministry said on Thursday, quoting the Israeli ambassador to Belgrade.

Israeli companies are also interested in investing in infrastructure, construction and energy efficiency projects in Serbia, ambassador AlonaFisher-Kamm said during a meeting with infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic, as quoted in a statement by the ministry.

Israeli investors have so far bought real estate worth 1 billion euro ($1.05 billion) in Serbia, Fisher-Kamm noted.

Serbia's exports to countries in the Middle East rose by 58% to 29 billion dinars in 2016, while imports from countries in the region soared 134% to 39.8 billion dinars, according to data from country's statistical office.
