Italian firm Energy Resources is among the qualified bidders for a tender in Ethiopia for two 100-MW independent power producer solar projects, it said Wednesday.

The company is partnering with an unnamed international financial group for the tender, launched by Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP). The winner(s) will develop, finance, build, own and operate the two solar parks. Suitable sites for the projects have been identified in the Tigre region in the north.

Energy Resources said the tender has attracted 60 companies, 18 of which qualified to bid. The latter list includes Enel Green Power, Acciona and TBEA SunOasis Co, among others.

The EEP has plans to install 5,200 MW wind, 500 MW geothermal, 5,200 MW utility-scale solar and 420 MW biomass projects in both public and private financing schemes.
