Italian renewable energy companies Fly Ren Energy Group and Consulcesi Tech opened 1 megawatt MW solar park in Moldova, the biggest in the country, following a 1 million euro ($1.2 million) investment, the country's energy ministry said on Friday.

The Fly Ren solar park is located in the village of Bacioi and is spread on an area of 2.5 hectares, the economy ministry said in a press release.

A 1 MW plant can generate enough electricity for a year to cover the annual consumption of about 350 families.

According to the ministry's information, there are currently 52 PV power generating units of different sizes in Moldova, with a cumulative capacity of 3.92 MW on an area over 30 ha.

"It is an important project, which contributes to the strengthening of Moldova's energy security. Such projects come to reduce our country's dependence on imported resources. Moreover, the energy is clean, without CO2 emissions," economy minister Chiril Gaburici said, as quoted in the statement..
