FPT Industrial, the global powertrain brand of Italian truck and bus manufacturer Iveco Group (BIT:IVG), has inaugurated a “totally carbon-neutral” factory in Turin that runs on renewable energy.

The ePowertrain facility, which covers a total area of 15,000 sq m, is powered by “solar panels and other innovative photovoltaic and wind power technologies.” Furthermore, it buys additional energy from renewables along with carbon credits and relies on drought-resilient plants on site to fully offset its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The new factory has the annual capacity to manufacture more than 20,000 electric axles for heavy-duty vehicles and over 20,000 battery packs for light commercial vehicles and minibuses.

"Iveco Group has set itself the challenging goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040, ten years before the deadline of the Paris Agreement. This applies equally to our products and to the places where we work to produce them,” commented CEO Gerrit Marx.
