JA Solar supplies 28 MW of modules for plant in Bangladesh

Chinese solar products maker JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:JASO) on Sunday said it has delivered all modules for a 28-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Bangladesh.

Located in Teknaf, a region prone to blackouts, the PV facility is considered to be the first large-scale solar power plant in the country. Connected to the utility grid in September, the solar park will help alleviate power shortages as its output will be enough to meet 80% of the electricity demand in the Teknaf area, JA solar stated in its press release.

Developed by local firm Technaf Solartech Energy Ltd (TSEL), a subsidiary of Joules Power, this PV farm is also expected to offset 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

The Bangladeshi government has set a target for the country to generate 2,000 MW of electricity through solar power plants by 2021, JA Solar noted.
