Jamaica to call RFP for 115 MW of green power projects

Nov 26, 2012 - Jamaica's Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is issuing today a request for proposals (RFP) for up to 115 MW of renewable power capacity today, local media reported on Saturday, citing Jamaica's energy minister Phillip Paulwell.

The government will sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the selected bidders to supply power to the national grid. All investors in large or small renewable energy systems are eligible to place bids, Jamaica Observer reported.

In October, the government removed the exclusive right given to the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica to develop renewable energy projects in the country, thus opening the market for competitive bids, the daily said citing a statement from the ministry.

Jamaica aims to cover 20% of its power consumption with renewable sources by 2030.
