The construction of the 24-MW Wigton III wind farm in Jamaica’s Middlesex county will be completed by the end of 2015, more than half a year ahead of schedule, JIS News said, quoting energy minister Phillip Paulwell.

The project was developed by Wigton Wind Farm Ltd, which is a unit of local power firm Petroleum Corp of Jamaica. It will consist of 12 of Gamesa’s G80 2-MW turbines, which have already been procured for installation, according to the report.

The 24-MW wind park represents the third phase of the Wigton wind power complex, which will have a total capacity of 62.7 MW following the latest expansion.

This project marks Gamesa’s debut on the Jamaican wind market. According to JIS News, its contract with the developer is valued at USD 45 million (EUR 41.7m).
