Jamaica's Wisynco goes solar with 1-MW array

Jamaican distributor and beverages maker Wisynco Group Ltd on Thursday commissioned a 1-MW solar system in Spanish Town, the parish of St Catherine.

Some of the photovoltaic (PV) panels have been installed on top Wisynco’s distribution building there, while the rest are ground-mounted. There are plans for a phase II project, which will quadruple the solar array’s capacity, The Gleaner reported.

The company has taken the decision to go solar in order to reduce its energy costs and be more environmentally friendly.

Energy minister Phillip Paulwell told The Gleaner recently that Jamaica should aim for a 30% renewable power share.
