Belgian marine contractor Jan De Nul Group said Monday it has signed a preferred supplier agreement for offshore wind export cables in Taiwan with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).

Jan De Nul will provide two AC high-voltage cables with an overall length of about 90 km (56 miles) that will connect the offshore substation of the 500-MW Fengmiao I offshore wind project off the coast of Taichung to Taiwan’s grid. The Belgian contractor will transport and install the cables, deploying its cable-laying vessel Willem de Vlamingh. The task includes the protection of crossings with other cables.

Jan De Nul said this is the eighth wind farm in Taiwan it is involved in. The company has participated in the construction of over 60 offshore wind farms globally.

In May, CIP inaugurated a nearly 600-MW wind farm off the Taiwanese coast, its first offshore wind project in the Asia Pacific.
