Industrial and electronic equipment maker Japan Benex Corporation has switched on a 4.2-MW direct current (DC) rooftop solar array in Nara prefecture, central Japan.

The company said on Tuesday that the Benex Nara Solar Port, as it is named, is the country's largest operational roof-rented photovoltaic (PV) system on a single logistics facility.

Built atop the LF Nara site in Ando city, the PV system features 7,632 solar modules that can generate some 4.25 million kWh per year, enough to meet the demand of around 1,415 ordinary households.

This project also marks the first collaboration with Cushman & Wakefield, a global integrated real estate services company and developer of the LF Nara facility.

Japan Benex noted that it now owns 40 power plants with a combined capacity of 51.9 MW, of which 42.9 MW are roof-rented solar power plants.
