Japan to provide financial support to Cape Verde renewables - report

Jun 5, 2013 - Japan is provide financing to the tune of USD 88.5 million (EUR 67.6m) for projects in Cape Verde in the areas of renewable energy, water supply and fishing, the Prime Minister of the Atlantic island country told Radio de Cabo Verde (RCV).

The matter was agreed by Minister Jose Maria Neves and his Japanese colleague Shinzo Abe during a Cape Verde visit to Japan for the 5th issue of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

The Prime Minister told the radio station that Cape Verde and the Japanese government were also in talks over financial support for certain dams in the country.

Cape Verde, located off the coast of Western Africa, relies on imported fossil fuels for thermal power generation.
